Malagueña

Malagueña

Every family has a secret recipe. Malaguena’s is birthdays and guitars and worn photo albums. It’s knowing more than one song in a different language, even if you couldn’t order a cup of coffee in it. It’s looking at your grandfather’s hands and seeing how his passion grew into powerful, aching knots. It’s booming laughter and midnight toasts. It’s taking pride in your culture. By nightfall, the bottoms of your wine glasses are stained red and outlined in lipstick. The smell of dinner mixes with fresh cut roses as you doze off on a purple velvet couch. This is why they call the kitchen the heart of the home.  Malaguena is the comfort of family, the merging between stubbornness and passion. It’s knowing where you come from. It’s love.
